Cuges les Pins is a unique geological area.
In French "Polget". It used to be a lake long long time ago. Now,
due to permeable underground, it has become dry. However this is a basin.
Now, when you are in the vineyards in the midle, whatever
direction you go you have at least to climb 50 meters in level.
On the Picture, at distance, right side, light green: the vineyards of
Cuges. On the left, the hills of Ste Baume (1147m). The impressive clif of
"Pic de Bertagne" on the left. |
Gemenos, St Pons,
an
amazing wet area in this dry environment
In this dry environment, at bottom on the Ste Baume hills, there is a cool
place in summer while every other place is hot. Valley of St Pons, with its
continuous spring is an incredible wet area even with cascades.

The spring. The water gets off the rock and
immediatly create the small river that runs all the valley to Gemenos. |

"Tuf" cascade where during years
the calcium from water has combined with moss to create natural gargoyle. |
